Life Span Human Development
Life Span Human Development was the winner of the 2013 Australian Educational Publishing Award for best Tertiary Student resource. It was also a commended finalist in the Best Designed Tertiary & Further Education Book category at the 2013 Australian Book Design Awards. I designed the cover and art directed the internals.
Life Span Human Development asks fundamental questions why humans develop the way we do. The cover speaks to contextual human development – that human beings are shaped by the environments in which they live, be they sociological, cultural or historical. A double exposure physically demonstrates how the woman’s silhouette has taken on the form of the outside world. Her self reflective pose and the yellow overlay which highlights her temple connote a process of cognitive transformation.
The success of the first edition called for a second edition design which maintained brand recognition. Both editions have generated a combined revenue of 800k in sales.
